The Mbappe saga has gone on for years, with yet another twist. The Frenchman, who had before informed PSG that he does not intend to extend his contract with the club beyond 2024, now looks set to give them at least one more season. Indeed, the Ligue 1 club attempted to sell Mbappe in order to avoid losing him for free, but the 24-year-old has informed the club that he will not be leaving this summer to join Real Madrid or anyone else.
Mbappe’s choice is likely to anger his club, which simply does not want to lose him for free in a year. He was left out of PSG’s Asia tour team and seemed almost certain to leave, although has now informed the club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, that he will stay and complete the final year of his contract.
Mbappe’s decision to stay in Paris for another year means he’ll be a free agent for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024. The French club paid a whopping €180 million to sign the forward from Monaco in 2017 and not obtaining any transfer fee for him is both embarrassing and financially problematic.
