Landslide hits Vaishno Devi yatra route; killing 2 pilgrims, and 1 injured

On Monday, a landslide on the new track to the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi area killed two women pilgrims and injured one girl.

The victims were identified as Sapna, 27, of Dhianpur village in Gurdaspur, Punjab, and Neha, 23, of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Sanvi, an injured Kanpur girl, has been admitted to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital for treatment. At roughly 2:15 PM on Monday, the accident occurred near Panchi, three kilometres ahead of Bhawan.

According to reports, the landslide was triggered by shooting stones following recent rainfall. The incident also caused damage to a piece of the above iron structure. The pilgrims were on their way to the shrine when they became trapped by the falling building.

Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner of Reasi, confirmed the event, saying preliminary indications indicate two women died and one daughter was critically injured. A rescue operation was immediately initiated, and pilgrim movement along the track has been halted. Officials are presently investigating the event.
