Laporte wants to leave Manchester City for a return back to Spain

Aymeric Laporte has expressed his intentions to leave Manchester City.

The Spanish defender is unhappy with the lack of playing time at Manchester City and would like to leave the club. He has suitors in Spain that are potentially interested in a permanent move for the defender.

With his recent return from injury, John Stones has cemented his place in the starting lineup and this has seen Laporte sidelined due to phenomenal defensive performances by Stones. The recent transfer of Ruben Dias has also managed to keep Laporte out of the starting lineup. Laporte is unhappy with a squad or backup role and has made only 16 Premier League appearances for Manchester City in the 2020/21 Premier League season. According to reporters from England Pep Guardiola has tried to convince the 27-year old centre back to stay in England and fight for his position in the squad.

Sources close to Aymeric Laporte still see him leaving Manchester City as far from a certainty due to the financial situation at top European clubs. As it stands, any money received for Aymeric Laporte would be reinvested in a replacement rather than put towards either Harry Kane or Jack Grealish. Barcelona was being reported as a destination for Laporte but City’s asking price might put the Blaugranas in a difficult position

Laporte played for Athletic Bilbao in La Liga and was signed by Manchester City in the winter transfer window of January 2018 for a reported fee of £57 million.
