Lok Sabha passes Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2021

The Lok Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2021, on Saturday in the budget session.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “I will reiterate that this bill has nothing to do with the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, in due time J&K will be given statehood.” He also requested the members of the Parliament to not oppose the bill for the matter of politics.

During the discussion regarding the bill, the opposition pointed out the increased number of internet bans, ceasefire violations, curfews after the overruling of article 370. Amit Shah asked the opposition “you are asking us what we did in the last 17 months, what have you done in the last 70 years.”

The Bill is to replace an ordinance to merge the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) cadre of civil services officers with the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre
