Mahakumbh 2025: Google celebrates the biggest Hindu celebration with virtual roses shower animation on search screen

Google has added a unique feature to its search engine in remembrance of the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. When users search for terms like “Kumbh,” “Maha Kumbh,” “Kumbh Mela,” or “Mahakumbh,” a virtual rain of rose petals falls down their screens as a greeting.

In addition to adding a festive touch, this animation let users to share or replay the event over WhatsApp, Facebook, X, and email. One of the biggest religious festivals in the world, the Mahakumbh Mela, began in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 13, 2025, and is scheduled to end on February 26.

Millions of devotees have gathered at the Triveni Sangam, which is the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the fabled Saraswati rivers, to take the sacred dip in hopes of achieving “Moksha” and spiritual purification, despite the bitter cold and heavy fog. The Uttar Pradesh administration has taken a number of actions to handle the enormous influx of pilgrims.

To ensure smooth connectivity for tourists, the Department of Telecommunications has modernised the telecom infrastructure in Prayagraj’s main public areas and the Mela region. To help reunite lost people with their families, an AI-powered digital “lost and found” centre has also been set up.

According to an official release, more than seven crore (70 million) individuals have taken holy dips in Sangam as part of the Mahakumbh between January 11 and 16. It is anticipated that 45 crore people will visit Mahakumbh in 2025. The Maha Kumbh got off to an auspicious start on the first day, when over 1.5 crore pilgrims took the sacred dip.

Preparations are already under way for the upcoming pious “snan” (holy bath), which is scheduled on January 29. Other significant “snan” dates after that are February 3 for Basant Panchami, February 12 for Maghi Purnima, and February 26, which is Maha Shivratri and the end of the Mahakumbh.
