Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero will be replaced with “right player” and Manchester City will not hold back in the market says chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
Sergi Aguero was revealed as a Barcelona player on Monday after signing a two-year contract and will move back to La Liga on July 1 after his current deal with Manchester City expires. The striker will be reunited with his international teammate and long-time friend Lionel Messi. He is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history and City’s top scorer of all time with 260 goals in 390 appearances in all competitions. His time at Etihad Stadium has seen him win five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and six League Cups.
Al Mubarak told City TV: “We lose a very important legend in Sergio Aguero, very hard shoes to fill but I am confident that we will find the right player to fill those shoes.
A name being touted as a replacement for Aguero is Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic striker Harry Kane who reportedly wants to leave the North London-based club and will decide upon his future after the European Championships. Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is also seen as one of the potential targets to replace Sergio Aguero as Manchester City’s main striker.
Al Mubarak reiterated to CityTV that, “There are other areas within the team which needs investment, not too many, it’s not about numbers it is about quality. I think the squad is a phenomenal squad, you don’t win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final without that and we have it. We will bring quality into the squad in a couple of key positions.”
Manchester City reportedly maintains an interest in Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish who has had an exceptional season for the ‘Villians’ despite suffering an injury in the latter half of the season. Despite the rumoured asking price of €100 million, Aston Villa is not looking to sell Grealish.
