Manchester United fans are planning a boycott of sponsors in response to the Glazers ownership dispute

Manchester United supporters have announced plans to boycott businesses that sponsor the club, as animosity against the club’s founders, the Glazer family, has grown.

Manchester United supporters have pledged to “boycott merchandise and besmirch logos” of club partners in an attempt to place strain on the Glazer family; a claim accuses sponsors of maintaining a “parasitic association” with the Glazers. Following Sunday’s riots, the game against Liverpool was postponed. A coalition of Manchester United supporters has announced a blockade of the club’s business associates in an attempt to place strain on the Glazer family, the club’s American owners.

A message shared on Twitter with the hashtag ‘NotAPennyMore’ gained traction on the social media website as United fans vowed their solidarity for the plan to blacklist the brands that are interested in sponsorship deals at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s match against Liverpool was deferred on Sunday after supporters protesting the Glazer family’s control of the club burst into Old Trafford.

The club’s Supporters Trust (MUST) sent an open letter to co-chairman Joel Glazer, outlining a “four-point transformation agenda” that emphasized greater fan interest in the club’s operations.

“Your sponsorships will be used for debt payments and dividends,” the announcement said, addressed to the club’s “commercial partners.” Supporting the Glazers would not imply that you are supporting the club. It has a parasitic relationship with it. “To that end, Manchester United fans will boycott your goods, attempt to tarnish your trademarks, and back your rivals before you end your commercial ties with the Glazer family.”

“If advertisers realized that working with the collapsed Glazer ownership threatens ‘name infinity’ and ‘affiliation with achievement,’ and left, we’re confident that United fans would once again support these corporations for standing up for the ideals of the football club that holders like the Glazer family do not hold, we’re sure United fans will once again support these companies for sticking up for the principles of the football club that the past few weeks have shown owners like the Glazer family do not carry.”
