At the 75th Emmy Awards, Friends star Matthew Perry, who passed away in October of last year, received tribute. Singer-songwriter Charlie Puth teamed with country duo The War and Treaty to perform a stripped-down version of the Friends theme song during Monday night’s grand event. Videos of the emotional cover went viral on the internet, melting the hearts of internet users everywhere.
During the In Memoriam part of the famous award ceremony on January 15, Puth and the husband-wife duo presented an emotional performance of the legendary sitcom’s theme song. The 32-year-old musician opened the segment by playing his hit song See You Again, followed by an acoustic cover of I’ll Be There For You by The Rembrandts.

Many fans reacted to the video. One wrote, “Gone but not forgotten.” Another commented, “Gone too soon.” One user said, “I still can’t believe he is in there… So talented and young will be missed forever.” Another wrote, “We miss you, Matty.”
On October 28, 2023, Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his Los Angeles residence. Due to pending toxicology reports, the reason for his demise was reported inconclusive. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later found that Perry died as a result of “acute effects of ketamine.”
