At the box office, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which starred Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles, is struggling. On its opening day, the movie made little over one crore, which was indeed a terrible start.
Early projections indicate that Mere Husband Ki Biwi made Rs 1.5 crore on its first day of release. The movie had trouble drawing viewers even after being heavily promoted in some cities. With only Loveyapa earning less at Rs 1.15 crore, it ranks among the worst Bollywood openings of the year.
The film, which was directed by Mudassar Aziz, centres on Arjun Kapoor’s character, Ankur Chaddha, who is entangled in a romantic triangle with his current partner, played by Rakul Preet Singh, and his ex-wife, played by Bhumi Pednekar. The Hollywood release Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman, and Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which is currently topping the box office with about Rs 250 crore in revenue, posed a serious threat to the movie.
In Mere Husband Ki Biwi, Bhumi Pednekar plays journalist Prabhleen Dhillon, Rakul plays his college crush Antara Khanna, and Arjun Kapoor plays real estate tycoon Ankur Chaddha. Important parts are played by Aditya Seal, Dino Morea, Shakti Kapoor, and Harsh Gujral.
The movie is Arjun Kapoor’s second collaboration with Rakul Preet Singh and Bhumi Pednekar after their roles in The Lady Killer and Sardar Ka Grandson.
