Mourinho set to acquire Rui Patricio’s services at Roma

Rui Patrício will be an AS Roma reinforcement under Jose Mourinho.

Rui Patricio is set to sign for Roma with a potential Wolves exit. Reports suggest that a fee has been agreed in the region of 7 million euro plus 3 million euro bonuses. Jose Mourinho is keen to improve his squad at Roma and identified the goalkeeper position at his new club as a position in need of improvement.

Patricio is the first choice goalkeeper at Wolverhampton Wanderers and for the Portugal national team. However, lacklustre performances by the Portuguese shot-stopper means Wolves are keen to sell the goalkeeper and find a possible upgrade.

Mourinho was sacked from the Tottenham Hotspur job a week before the League Cup final against Manchester City. Since then he has joined AS Roma as manager and extended Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract to keep him at the club for 2 years. Roma has also been reported to have completed their first signing of the summer in Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka who will join the Italian club after completing his international duties for Switzerland in Euro 2020.

Mourinho’s first target in the goalkeeper position was Gianluigi Donarumma but he was snapped up by Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. Another potential target was Hugo Lloris with whom Mourinho worked at Tottenham. Gladbach’s Yann Sommer was another target but Roma were priced out of a move for the goalkeeper.

Rui Patricio will join Roma after Euro 2020 and will reportedly sign a 3 year deal with the club.
