Mumbai wakes up to morning showers; Orange alert issued with heavy rain forecast today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the likelihood of heavy to very heavy showers with sporadic gusty winds in Mumbai and its suburbs on Sunday, a day after rains pounded sections of the city, according to civic officials.

No significant waterlogging was observed, they said, and Sunday morning’s rain intensity dropped after a severe overnight rainfall, with light showers and sporadic heavy spells. On the Central Railway route, the local trains were operating a bit behind schedule, but the authorities did not give an explanation.

According to the administration, the BEST bus service routes were not diverted. A few locations in Mumbai and the nearby districts of Thane, Raigad, and Palghar are expected to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday, according to the IMD’s “orange” alert. According to the report, there may be sporadic wind gusts of 40–50 kmph and even 60 kmph.
