Navratri 2024: Foods you can consume during your fast

One of the biggest celebrations observed with fervour throughout India is Navratri. Sharad Navratri and Chaitra are the most extensively observed of the four festivals. Beginning on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha in the Ashwin month, Sharad Navratri is observed as per the Hindu calendar. This year Navratri will begin on October 3, 2024, and run through October 12, 2024. Goddess Durga’s nine divine forms are honoured on each of these nine days that are devoted to her adoration.

During this time, believers all around the nation fast with complete dedication and sincerity. Vijayadashami, the festival’s final event, is a joyful and festive celebration of good defeating evil. Here are some of the foods, we can have during Navratri fast:

1. Fruits

Throughout the nine days of Navratri, any fruit may be eaten. Actually, in order to maintain the body hydrated throughout the fasting period, we should increase the amount of fruits in our diet.

2. Herbs and spices

This time of year is perfect for consuming herbs and spices. However, rock salt can be used as a substitute for table salt when preparing cuisine.

3. Veggies

During the festival, a variety of veggies are available for consumption. During this period, people should refrain from eating onions and garlic.

4. Non-vegetarian food

During Navratri, steer clear of meat, fish, and eggs. It is imperative to abstain from smoking and alcohol consumption.

5. Grains and flours

Regular wheat and rice should be avoided during the Navratri fast. To make preparations, use rajgire ka atta, singhare ka atta, or kuttu ka atta. One of the important foods eaten during the celebration is Sabudana. Additionally, it’s used to make vadas, papad, and khichdi.
