Death Before The Wedding, directed by Tomasz Konecki and Iwona Ogonowska-Konecka, is a heartwarming comedy-drama that blends family dynamics, traditions, and the struggle to save a small-town dairy business.
The film stars Natalia Iwańska as Maja, Gamou Fall as Miłosz, Tomasz Karolak as Mirek, and Agnieszka Suchora as Regina. The story follows Mirek, a proud father who is not only grappling with his daughter Maja’s decision to get married but also facing the impending closure of his beloved dairy factory.
Mirek has always been proud of Maja’s academic achievements, but when she announces her plans to marry, he is strongly opposed to the idea. At the same time, he faces the threat of his dairy factory being shut down by Rylski, the CEO of a large dairy corporation. Things take a turn for the worse when the factory manager unexpectedly dies, giving Rylski the perfect opportunity to push for the factory’s closure. Mirek tries to convince Rylski to reconsider, but the CEO is unmoved.
Enter Rylski’s wife, Ika, who loves organizing weddings. She strikes a deal with Mirek—if he allows her to plan Maja’s wedding, he will be given three weeks to find a new factory manager to save the business. Reluctantly, Mirek agrees, though he’s still not on board with the wedding itself.
When Maja brings her fiancé Miłosz home to meet her parents, Mirek is surprised by Miłosz’s race, and his wife Regina accuses him of being racist. Despite Mirek’s reservations about Miłosz, he believes that a quick wedding may be the key to saving the factory.
Maja, meanwhile, is shocked to learn that her parents are suddenly supportive of her wedding plans, only to later discover that their support is motivated by a desire to prevent the factory’s closure. Regina introduces Maja to a group of local women working in the dairy industry who believe the factory could benefit from female leadership. They propose that Regina should take over as the new factory manager, though Regina feels uncertain about her abilities.
Meanwhile, Miłosz, with his expertise in logistics, impresses Mirek with his ideas for improving the factory’s operations. As the town becomes divided into two factions—men focused on increasing production and women using social media to support the dairy business—the stakes rise. A local police officer, Tomek, uncovers that Rylski has been shutting down multiple dairies, converting them into luxury estates.
On the wedding day, Miłosz’s parents arrive from Paris, and Mirek, frustrated with Rylski’s refusal to honor the deal, calls off the wedding. He exposes Rylski’s true intentions, and Ika, furious with her husband’s deceit, pressures him into selling the factory to Mirek at a much lower price, threatening to reveal his shady financial dealings.
Thanks to Ika’s intervention, Mirek’s family acquires the dairy factory. Miłosz’s father, impressed by the quality of the local cheese, offers to invest in the business. Mirek also realizes Regina’s potential as a leader and asks her to become the factory’s new manager. In the end, the family business is saved, and Maja and Miłosz’s wedding goes ahead as planned, with everyone coming together for a happy ending.
