Connections, a favorite puzzle game from The New York Times, challenges you to sort a grid of 16 words into four categories based on their shared links. Each word in the grid belongs to one of four secret groups, and your goal is to figure out how the words relate to each other. The puzzle resets at midnight every day, and each day’s challenge comes with a different level of difficulty. Like Wordle, you can track your streaks and compare your progress with friends.
Some days are more challenging than others, much like the NYT Games favorites, The Mini and Strands. If you’re struggling with today’s puzzle, check out our Connections tips for strategies to solve it or read on for some helpful hints. If you’re still stumped, we’ll provide today’s answers at the end.
How to Play Connections
You can play Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app, available on iOS and Android.
Each puzzle presents a grid of 16 words, and your task is to categorize them into four sets of four words based on common themes. These themes could range from categories like video game franchises, book series, shades of color, famous brands, and more.
Sometimes, words may seem to fit multiple groups, but there’s only one correct answer. You can shuffle the grid to help you spot the connections. As you categorize the words, they will be color-coded. Yellow represents the easiest group, followed by green, blue, and purple.
When you select four words and hit Submit, if they’re correct, they’ll disappear from the grid, and the theme connecting them will be revealed. If you’re wrong, it counts as a mistake. You have a maximum of four mistakes before the game ends.
