Pankaj Udhas, popular ghazal and playback singer, passed away at 72

Pankaj Udhas, a veteran ghazal-playback singer and Padma Shri recipient passed away on Monday (February 26, 2024) at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. He died today at 11 a.m. in Mumbai. He was taken to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for some time. The Udhas family also informed his fans. The singer has been sick for a long time, according to the family’s official statement.

Nayaab, the daughter of a veteran ghazal artist, issued a statement on Instagram. The statement reads, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

Pankaj ji’s mortal remains are still in Breach Candy Hospital. The last rites will be carried out tomorrow.

Even though Pankaj Udhas is no longer with us, his music will always make us feel better in both happy and sad moments. ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’, ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo’, ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang Tera’, ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, and ‘Aaj Jinke Kareeb Hote Hai’ are some of his well-known compositions. For those unfamiliar, the late singer is survived by Nayaab and Rewa Udhas, his two daughters.
