PIL at Delhi HC demands e-commerce websites to display MRP, seller details

A PIL in Delhi High Court has been filed seeking direction towards the display names of manufacturer, country of origin and MRP of product being mentioned on e-commerce websites.

The petition may come up for hearing next week. It claims that such details not being mentioned causes difficulty in terms of buying products online. Petitioner Ajay Kumar Singh from Ghaziabad believes that many websites do not comply with requirements under Consumer Protection, Ecommerce Rules (2020) and Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The petition goes on to claim that many people are being afflicted because such information is not provided on e-commerce websites. The direction is to ensure that necessary information about products for sale are displayed and Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and Consumer Protection Act, 2019 complied with.
