PM Modi’s niece does not get BJP ticket to contest civic polls

Sonal Modi, niece of PM Narendra Modi sought to run for Ahmedabad civic body polls through a BJP ticket but could not get the ticket because the party changed its rules for candidates.

The BJP announced its list of candidates for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections but Sonal Modi’s name does not appear anywhere in the list. She wished to run for the Bodakdev ward of the AMC. The BJP announced a change of rules recently according to which the relatives of party leaders cannot contest polls. Sonal Modi, however, justified that she did not contest as the relative of the PM but as a party worker.

Along with not allowing relatives of party leaders, the BJP said that they will also not allow anyone over 60 and anyone who completed three terms as councillors for party tickets.
