Rafael Nadal outlasts Sinner and strides into the quarter-finals of French Open

The defending champion dominates young Sinner 7-5, 6-3, 6-0 after a tight first set to meet Schwartzman in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros tournament. Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman had defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(9), 6-4, 7-5 this evening and reached this level. Rafael made 35 sets in a row at Roland Garros today.

Spanish defending champion Nadal has appeared in the most quarterfinal men’s singles of the Roland Garros, of all time (15) tying with Novak Djokovic who defeated 19 year old Musetti today, and followed by Roger Federer (12). He is the only player who has won the most number of clay court titles (62), holds an all time record of 13, French Opens, 11 Carlo Masters, 12 Barcelona and 10 Rome titles.

King of clay, and the greatest clay-court player in history, had beaten Sinner in the 2020 quarterfinals in Paris and in the 2021 Italian Open.

Rafael is on his way to affirm a record-extending 14th Roland Garros singles titles to become the man with 21 Grand Slams if he defeats four times ATP singles title winner in the quarterfinals. The Spaniard hasn’t lost any of the Paris Grand Slam tournament since 2015, the year in which Novak Djokovic had knocked him out in the French Open.

“I played with a player who is very good with a bright future, I am very happy to win”, said Nadal.

The finalists to the quarter-final are Djokovic vs Berrettini, Nadal vs. Schwartzman, Zverev vs. Davidovich Fokina and  Tsitsipas vs. Medvedev to advance to the semi-finals.
