Actor Rajpal Yadav recently revisited one of the most challenging phases of his life, speaking candidly about his brief stint in Tihar Jail during a conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan. Earlier this year, the actor surrendered in connection with a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case before securing interim bail in February.
In a light-hearted moment during the interaction, Rajpal prepared a simple mixed vegetable rice dish, recalling his early days in Mumbai when he shared living space with over ten people. The meal, he said, was a practical solution to avoid cooking multiple chapatis, reflecting his modest beginnings.
However, the conversation soon shifted to his time in jail, where he described the environment as one that demanded strict discipline. Rajpal maintained that the situation never escalated to the point where he was assigned duties, but adhering to routine and structure was essential. Rather than expressing resentment, he emphasized personal growth, stating that he has learned to adapt to every circumstance life presents.
The actor also acknowledged the strong support system that stood by him during the ordeal. Among the first to extend help was Sonu Sood, who publicly encouraged filmmakers to offer Rajpal work. Several others, including Salman Khan, David Dhawan and Priyadarshan, reportedly contributed to easing his financial burden.
The legal troubles trace back to 2010, when Rajpal took a loan to produce his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s underperformance led to mounting debts and eventual conviction in a cheque bounce case.
On the work front, Rajpal is now looking ahead to the release of Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan and featuring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi and Tabu. Meanwhile, Farah Khan has confirmed plans to begin her next film with Shah Rukh Khan later this year.
