Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is already playing in theaters, with paid previews showing strong attendance. The spy action drama’s first day on Thursday has seen tremendous sales. As of 11 p.m., the Ranveer Singh film has sold approximately 4.70 lakh tickets in the top two national chains, PVRINOX and Cinepolis, on its opening day.
At midnight, it will be just shy of 5 lakh, but sales will continue for a few more hours, potentially pushing the total figure above 5 lakh. Pathaan holds the record for opening-day sales at these chains, at 5.45 lakh. It’s possible that the picture misses that mark, but there’s no true comparison because Dhurandhar: The Revenge sold this many seats despite a high demand of 5 lakh or more in previews.
An optimal and fair comparison with Pathaan and Jawan is to combine previews and opening day sales right before the previews began, when the film had sold 8.75 lakh tickets, comfortably setting a record. Based on existing trends and bookings, the film is expected to gross more than Rs. 60 crore nett on its opening day Thursday.
It remains to be seen whether the picture can outperform Jawan’s opening day numbers on Thursday alone, although that would be an unfair comparison. The whole advance report will be updated tomorrow morning. The picture is poised for a massive weekend at the box office. The first day, including previews, will gross Rs. 100 crore nett. Then there is the Eid period, which begins on Saturday.
Although the Eid bump will not be as significant as it is for a Salman Khan megastar, the holiday is always beneficial. The four-day extended weekend is expected to generate roughly Rs. 325 crore nett. Including all versions, it could exceed Rs. 350 crore nett.
