Renuka Shahane Shares Humorous Memory from Hum Aapke Hain Koun Set

Renuka Shahane recently shared heartfelt yet humorous memories from the iconic 1994 film Hum Aapke Hain Koun, where she played the beloved character of Pooja. In a candid interview with Filmy Shilmy, Shahane recalled the filming of her character’s funeral scene, where, despite the emotional atmosphere, she couldn’t help but smile. “They shooed me away, telling me to go off the set; we are trying to do our job,” she laughed, recounting how her amusement caught the attention of the cast and crew who were deeply immersed in the emotional moment.

The actress also reflected on the challenges of being typecast after the film, which solidified her image as the quintessential “girl next door.” Although grateful for the role, Shahane admitted that the film’s success led to her being offered predominantly similar roles, which she found restrictive. She longed to explore more diverse characters, particularly those with gray shades or more complex traits, but casting directors often saw her as the relatable, idealistic woman.

Shahane fondly remembered her co-star Reema Lagoo’s emotional response during the hospital sequence, where her character dies. Lagoo struggled to separate herself from the scene, showing the deep emotional investment the cast had in their roles.

Despite the challenges, Shahane expressed no regrets about being typecast, appreciating the warmth and love the role brought to her career. Hum Aapke Hain Koun, a family-centric film, remains one of Bollywood’s most cherished romantic dramas.
