RG Kar Case verdict: Sanjay Roy quoted, “I didn’t do this”

Former civil volunteer Sanjay Roy told the Sealdah court that he was wrongfully implicated in the case after being found guilty of raping and killing a trainee physician at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Sanjay Roy, who was seen on CCTV lingering close to the hospital’s lecture hall where the doctor was discovered dead, said on Saturday that the criminals were not being held accountable. “I was wrongfully accused. I didn’t do this. They are let go, those who have done so.”

According to news agency ANI, he stated, “There was one IPS involved.” The court informed the convicted party that he would have the opportunity to speak on Monday when the penalty amount would be announced.

“On Monday, the accused will be heard. He is currently being placed under judicial custody.” On Monday, his sentence will be revealed. The judge stated, “I have scheduled the hearing for 12:30.”

The in-camera trial began in November of last year, and the verdict was handed out almost two months later. Sections 66 and 103 (1) of the Act, which address the punishment for murder, as well as Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which regulates rape, were used to find Sanjay Roy guilty. The maximum penalty under Section 103 (1) of the BNS is either death or life in prison.

According to PTI, the victim’s parents expressed gratitude to the judge for the guilty decision and claimed the court had upheld their confidence.
