Ritu Phogat, an Indian MMA fighter who competes in the ONE Championship. She is also a Commonwealth Wrestling champion, having won gold for India in 2016. Ritu took her Twitter handle this morning to bring a sense of togetherness amongst the nation. She posed a crisp prayer for her family, friends and everyone viewing her post to remain safe and healthy in these harsh times of COVID-19.

The previous six months have been challenging for many of us, with the prospect of a pandemic still hanging large. However, many Indian athletes are working hard to make India proud, demonstrating perseverance and providing a glimmer of hope.

Ritu Phogat is one such athlete who is now in Singapore competing in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition organized by ONE Championship, India. Ritu, in fact, is due to meet Meng Bo, a two-time Chinese MMA champion, in the quarterfinals of the 2021 ONE Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix.

Aside from Aamir Khan’s film Dangal, which made Ritu’s sisters Geeta and Babita national celebrities, the Phogat sisters are well-known in their own right.
