
Bad news for India fans, Just 49 days to go for the Tokyo Olympics, and United World Wrestling (UWW) has suspended Indian wrestler Sumit Malik as he fails a dope test in a recent qualifying match in Bulgaria.
Malik had won an Olympic quota in the men’s 125kg freestyle event.
This news was shocking for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) because they were not expecting Sumit will fail the dope test. Vinod Tomar, assistant secretary confirmed the news. He said there is still a thin chance for Sumit to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
Talking with ANI, Vinod Tomar said “Sumit’s B sample will be tested on the 10th of June and for now, he is provisionally suspended. After the test, the wrestler’s hearing will go on”. Tomar further said that it is very bad news for the Wrestling Federation of India and everyone is upset. He also added that Sumit has not done anything intensionally and he was injured so he might have taken medicine, this would be the reason that he failed in a dope test.
Sumit has represented India many times at a big level and Won medals for the country. Malik is also a 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist. He has won a silver medal at Asian Wrestling Championships also winning a silver medal in 2017 at Commonwealth Wrestling Championship.
