Sarandeep Singh backs Shardul Thakur over Mohammed Siraj for the WTC final

Former selector Sarandeep Singh has backed Shardul Thakur over Mohammed Siraj for the upcoming World Test Championship final to be played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton starting from June 18th.

He feels if India is going with four-seamers, Shardul should be considered over Mohammed Siraj in case of the overcast friendly conditions at the Ages Bowl.

However, as things stand, it is said that India will only go with three fast bowlers to make way for the spinners  Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the marque event.

Speaking to PTI, Sarandeep opined “If conditions are overcast, then you can play an extra fast bowler after Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Shami. My pick would be Shardul though Siraj has also done very well.”

He also told the Kiwis would have an upper hand in the final game of the WTC as New Zealand would have played two Test games against the host England. Whereas the Indian side would be left without match practice despite facing completely different conditions than what they encounter at home.

Singh, who also spoke about the Indian batting said, it will be an important series for young opener Shubman Gill, who could not replicate his success in Australia in the home series against England.
