Seattle-based south asian film organization Tasveer drops Dhurandhar 2 from screenings; says selection did not reflect its values

Seattle-based South Asian film organization Tasveer has removed Dhurandhar 2 from its daily screening schedule at the Tasveer Film Centre, stating that the decision to screen the film earlier did not align with its usual programming approach. The announcement comes shortly after the film, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, drew attention across global markets.

In an official statement, Executive Director and Co-Founder Rita Meher acknowledged that the film’s inclusion in the lineup was made in haste. She explained that, as a newly opened theatre, the team has been experimenting with programming choices, including mainstream Bollywood titles. However, she admitted that this particular decision did not follow the careful selection process that has guided Tasveer’s work since its launch.

Clarifying the organisation’s position, Meher emphasised that screening the film was not meant to signal support for its content. She also issued an apology to audiences and communities who may have been affected, calling the move part of an ongoing learning process as the platform continues to shape its identity.

Reaffirming Tasveer’s inclusive values, Meher highlighted that the organisation represents diverse voices across religions, identities, and beliefs, and remains committed to unity and representation through cinema. The organisation also noted that pulling the film will result in financial losses, including penalties payable to the studio. It has invited supporters to contribute as it absorbs the impact of the decision.

Despite this development, Dhurandhar 2 continues to perform exceptionally well at the box office. The film has been receiving a strong response both in domestic and international markets, drawing large audiences and maintaining steady momentum.
