While accepting an honour at a recent awards ceremony, superstar Shah Rukh Khan talked about his various accomplishments and disappointments in the previous several years. In his speech, the actor alluded to the arrest of his son, Aryan Khan, and talked about the trio of hit films that he featured in last year. He also delighted the crowd with his humour and witty interactions with others, including director Mani Ratnam. However, a humble gesture that he made towards P Veeramuthuvel, the project director in charge of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, grabbed everyone’s attention on social media, and a video of the incident went viral.
In a video from the awards event, Shah Rukh is seen pulling Veeramuthuvel in his direction to ensure that the ISRO scientist has his moment in the spotlight. Though Veeramuthuvel was attempting to stay in the background, the actor wouldn’t have it. Previously, the actor had obliged the ISRO team by joining them on stage for photographs.
This humble act of Shah Rukh Khan went unnoticed yesterday. An ISRO Scientist was offering his place to him during the group photograph and going to stand somewhere else as he was too nervous in front of him, but SRK pulled him back to stand alongside him. ISRO chairman S Somanath joined Veeramuthuvel on stage, and the union minister Dr. Jitendra Singh congratulated them, calling the chairman “the Shah Rukh Khan of space,” much to the actor’s amusement.
Last year, following Chandrayaan-3’s perfect soft landing, Shah Rukh celebrated the event on X. He penned, “Chaand Taare todh laoon….Saari Duniya par main chhaoon. Aaj india aur @isro chhaa gaya. Congratulations to all the scientists and engineers…the whole team which has made India so proud. Chandrayaan-3 has successfully soft-landed on the moon. #Chandrayaan3.”
