Spain registers 4 million as jobless amid pandemic restrictions

The count of people registered as jobless in Span reaches 4 million as COVID-19 limitations assaulted the weak economy and prompted the first month of employment obliteration since last May.

The country saw an increase of 1.12% or 44,436 people claiming to be jobless when compared to January. For the first time since 2016, the count has reached 4 million according to Labour Ministry data and marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase in unemployment.

Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz tweeted, “The rise in unemployment, caused by the third wave, is bad news, reflecting the structural flaws of the labour market that are accentuated by the pandemic.”
