Sushil Kumar was fired from his employment at the Indian Railways, 48 hours after being arrested in a murder case

Sushil Kumar, a senior commercial manager with the Railways, was suspended on Wednesday until further notice. The judgement comes after he was detained and held in police custody for six days in connection with the death of a wrestler in Delhi.

Sushil Kumar, a decorated wrestler, suffered another setback when he was suspended from his work with the Indian Railways till further notice. Sushil was detained on Sunday in connection with the murder of Sagar Rana, a 23-year-old wrestler, in Delhi.

Sushil Kumar, along with his colleague Ajay Kumar, was arrested and held in police custody for six days. On Sunday, he was apprehended after being on the run for about a month in Delhi’s Mundka. Olympic medalist Kumar, a senior commercial manager with the Northern Railway, was assigned by the Delhi government as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Chhatrasal Stadium to help develop sports at the school level.

“Sushil Kumar was arrested in police custody for more than 48 hours on May 23, 2021. As a result, Sushil Kumar JAG/ (Adhoc) IRTS is deemed to have been suspended with effect from the date of detention, i.e. May 23, 2021, in accordance with Rule 5 (2) of the (D&A) Rules, 1968, and shall remain suspended until further orders are issued,” Northern Railways issued a statement.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has declined to renew Sushil’s deputation following his suspected participation in the murder. Sushil was escorted to the Chhatrasal Stadium earlier on Wednesday by the Delhi Police Crime Branch team to recreate the crime scene. As part of the inquiry, the wrestler was also escorted to his Model Town home.

The Delhi Police crime section is looking into everything, including if Sushil Kumar had any relationships with gangsters who may have assisted Sushil prior to his detention. With the assistance of forensic professionals, the Crime Branch team is gathering evidence from the crime site.

Sushil and his colleagues have been suspected of kidnapping Sagar from his Model Town home in order to punish him for disparaging him in front of other wrestlers, according to police. According to the authorities, Sushil even ordered a man called Prince to film the event and wanted it to go viral in his community so that no one else would ever disrespect the two-time Olympic winner again.
