Actor Swara Bhasker has expressed her frustration after her X (formerly Twitter) account was permanently suspended due to alleged copyright violations. Taking to Instagram, she revealed that two of her tweets, including a Republic Day wish, were flagged for infringement, leading to the suspension.
Swara shared screenshots of the notices she received from X and criticized the platform’s decision. She wrote, “(You can’t make this stuff up!!!!) Dear X, Two images from two tweets have been marked as ‘copyright infringements’. Basis which my X account is locked / disabled, I can’t access it and permanent suspension has been approved by your teams.”
She clarified that one of the flagged tweets featured a widely used slogan, “Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa hain, Tere qaatil zinda hain,” written in Hindi, which she described as part of the “progressive movement in India” and not subject to copyright.
The second flagged image, she revealed, was a picture of her own daughter waving the Indian flag on Republic Day, with her face concealed. Questioning the violation, she wrote, “How can this possibly be a copyright infringement???? Who has a copyright on my child’s likeness???”
Swara alleged that the complaints were baseless and targeted harassment aimed at suppressing her freedom of speech. She urged X to review and reverse the decision.
