Another music awards ceremony, another slew of awards for Taylor Swift.
The pop star took home the most awards at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She went into the night with the most nominations and left with 9 awards, including artist of the year, best pop, song of the year and video of the year.
Her wins on Tuesday moved her to the position of second-most-awarded singer in the show’s history. She also shares the record for the most wins in a single night.
She took home the night’s biggest award for the second year in a row, having previously won Video of the Year for “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).
In the acceptance speech, Swift said, “This is unbelievable. The fact that this is a fan-voted award means so much to me. It’s really felt like the adventure of a lifetime this past year. I cannot believe that it was a year ago at the VMAs that I announced the ‘Midnights’ album. All I have to say tonight is thank you.”
After winning the best pop award early in the broadcast, the pop star received her 15th Moon Person trophy. Swift accepted the award when NSYNC gave it to her.
Later, she won the song of the year award nominated along with SZA’s “Kill Bill” and Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers.” As she accepted her 16th award, she praised longtime producer and close friend Jack Antonoff for their first collaboration, “1989.” Swift plans to release the rerecorded version of the album on Oct. 27, precisely 9 years after the original was released.
For “Anti-Hero,” she took home her third award of the night in the “Best Direction” category, giving her a total of 17 wins. Her previous wins in this category were in 2018 with “All Too Well: The Short Film” and in 2020 for “The Man.”
