Tesla top executive held meetings with Indian government officials to discuss incentives

A delegation of senior Tesla executives will be visiting India to actively engage with all the government stakeholders to gain insights into the market. The executives will includes its public policy, supply chain and business development teams.

Two of the leading executive set to arrive in India are Rohan Patel, vice president, public policy and business development, and Roshan Thomas, vice president, global supply chains at Tesla.

The executives of the American company held meetings with Piyush Goyal, the commerce and industry minister, to discuss the incentive and benefits to be received by Tesla from the Indian government for selling its electric car in the country, says the people aware of the matter.

They were also a part of the celebrations on the sidelines of the inauguration of the India Trade Promotion Organisation complex Bharat Mandapam, organised by ministry, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra and Goyal.

In earlier meetings with the ministry of heavy industries, the Tesla executives discussed the possibilities of importing its EVs from its gigafactory in Berlin for the Indian market

However, the government stood its stand that it cannot favour one company over another by considering any concessionary rate of taxation while other companies pay full duty on imports.
