The Lord of The Rings: Prequel will be an anime movie titled ‘The War of the Rohirrim’

The movie is expected to be given a theatrical release and will be bringing back the writer of the original trilogy Philippa Boyens as a consultant

Warner Bros Animation and New Line is all set to bring back the saga of The Lord of The Rings as an anime feature film that has been titled ‘The War of the Rohirrim’. New Line Cinema, the production house behind the popular Middle-earth feature film series “Lord of the Rings” returns to the source material written by J.R.R. Tolkien after a long gap since The Hobbit trilogy, and are also teaming up with Warner Bros. Animation on the newly announced project.

The project, which is still in the very early stages of development, is being fast-tracked by New Line Cinema which keenly wants to release the anime as a worldwide theatrical release. “Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is set to take place roughly 250 years before the events of the movie “The Fellowship of the Ring” and focuses on the story of the character Helm Hammerhand and the King of Rohan, while also specifically focusing on the second installment of The Lord of the Rings movie which deals with the Two Towers. The movie is expected to expand on the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, delving into the life of Hammerhand and the blood-soaked times.

The anime movie will be written by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the Emmy-winning creators of the critically acclaimed series The Dark Crystal. Original writer Philippa Boyens will be serving as a consultant on the project. The voice casting process for the film is currently underway, and the movie will be distributed globally by Warner Bros. Pictures.
