The Mummy, a Hollywood horror film starring Lee Cronin, made about Rs. 1.75 crore on its second Friday at the Indian box office, continuing its steady run. Compared to its debut day last week, this is a mere 12% decrease. The 8-day running total is approximately Rs. 18.75 crore (USD 2 million).
It is anticipated that the second weekend will bring in about Rs. 8 crore, bringing the overall gross to about Rs. 25 crore by Sunday. For a low-budget movie like this, a full run of Rs. 35–40 crore would be a great result. South India is a major force in the industry, and even there, Tamil Nadu is doing remarkably well. More than 40% of the collections yesterday came from the state.
During the first weekend, this was between 20 and 25 percent. Over the course of the weekdays, it grew to almost half of the all-India business. With cities like Mumbai, Delhi-UP, and Mysore leading the way, Tamil Nadu often contributes closer than 10% for Hollywood films. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are leading the way in this regard, with the dubbed versions of Tamil and Telugu from these two states alone collecting more than English and Hindi in India. This highlights the horror movies’ widespread appeal.
In the past, the Mummy trilogy was very popular in India. The sequels made Rs. 27 crore in 2001 and Rs. 48 crore in 2008, while the 1999 movie made about Rs. 20 crore. Today, all of these add up to more than or equal to Rs. 200 crore. The well-known title has probably helped with initial recognition even though this movie is not a part of that franchise. In any case, the movie might become a hit, which would be Hollywood’s second success of the year in India.
