Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has agreed to a three-year contract extension. Tuchel was appointed Chelsea manager earlier this year when Frank Lampard left the club, and he signed an 18-month contract with the west London team.
However, the German has had a tremendously successful start to his tenure at Chelsea, directing them to a Champions League victory and a top-four finish in the Premier League, and he has been rewarded for his efforts with a contract extension until 2024.
“I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family,” Tuchel said.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”
Tuchel revived Chelsea’s season despite entering in January after being fired by Paris Saint-Germain less than a month before. He soon established a 3-4-2-1 formation, and the results were immediate, as Chelsea went 14 games unbeaten in all competitions.
He not only helped Chelsea finish top 4 in the Premier League but also won the UCL and reached the FA cup finals. All this in a matter of months, absolutely sensational.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said:
“When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.”
“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.”
“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”
Tuchel became the first manager to reach back-to-back Champions League finals with two separate clubs on Saturday, in addition to securing Champions League football for next season. Unlike the previous season with PSG, Tuchel led the Blues to a historic victory and our second Champions League title.
