India’s veteran female wrestler Vinesh Phogat is yet to reach Tokyo for the Olympics. She is scheduled to play her first match on August 5. According to Olympic protocol, She must reach Tokyo a week before the event. Indian female wrestler was training in Budapest, Hungary. From there she reached Frankfurt, France, and was supposed to catch a flight from Frankfurt to Tokyo, but she could not do so.

According to PTI, it was discovered that she had overstayed her European Union (EU) visa by one day. Vinesh Phogat is a strong contender to win the gold medal for India in wrestling. She has competed in the 53kg women’s freestyle category. She is the top seed in this category.

“It was an oversight and something not done on purpose. Instead of 90 days as per her Schengen visa, it was calculated that she had been in the EU for 91 days after she landed in Frankfurt from Budapest,” PTI quoted an IOA official.

“The matter was taken up by SAI swiftly and the Indian consulate in Frankfurt reached the airport to sort out the matter. Vinesh will be in Tokyo tomorrow.”

Phogat was to reach Tokyo on Tuesday night. But as soon as she reached Frankfurt airport, she was stopped there. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), however, resolved the matter. According to sources, Vinesh will reach Tokyo on Wednesday.
