The medal rounds in different sports are starting from July 24 at the Tokyo Olympics. Medals will be decided in 11 events on Saturday. Indian players are also contenders for medals in three of these events.
India hopes for a medal in these events:-
Archery-mixed event
All the knockout matches of Archery’s mixed event will be played on Saturday. India’s pair of Deepika Kumari and Praveen Jadhav has got the ninth rank. This rank has been got on the basis of performance in the ranking round held on Friday. In the pre-quarterfinals, Deepika-Praveen will face Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chia-en and Tang Chih-Chun. The match will start at 6 am as per Indian time. The Indian pair will have to win three matches on Saturday to claim the medal.
Weightlifting
On Saturday, a medal will also be expected from Mirabai Chanu, a world record holder in weightlifting. Chanu will enter the women’s 49 kg weight category. In April this year, Chanu set a world record by lifting 119 kg in the clean and jerk event of this weight category in Tashkent. The Group B round of Chanu’s event will start from 6:20 am and the Group A round (Medal round) will start from 10:20 am.
Shooting
In shooting, there will be 10m Air Rifle Women’s and 10m Air Pistol Men’s events on Saturday. Indian players in both are medal contenders. Ilanenis Valaviran and Apurvi Chandela in the women’s event and Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma in the men’s event will play for India. Among them, Saurabh Chaudhary has the highest expectation of a medal.
Also, The Indian men’s hockey team, and the eight gold medals winner in the Olympics, will start its campaign against New Zealand on Saturday. At the same time, the women’s team will face the Netherlands.
