Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil, also known as Mammootty, is an Indian film actor, producer, and the chairman of Malayalam Communications. He has appeared in over 400 films over the course of his three-decade career. Mammootty was a lawyer by profession. Since building himself as a lead actor in the 1980s, his big break came in 1987 with the box office success of New Delhi. Mammootty has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and English films, in addition to Malayalam films. He rendered his Tamil debut in Mounam Sammadham in 1990. Though his first film as a leading actor was Dhartiputra, he made his first appearance in Hindi films with Thriyathri, which was released in 1989.

Mammootty has been on his way to being a lawyer before his film debut moment. He describes himself as a “accidental” lawyer. He wanted to be an actor, but he ended up working as a lawyer for a time.”He was, though, also attempting to get into the film industry and act. He made several attempts, and was given my first opportunity. He was just fighting for his first opportunity. Then things began to fall into place for him. Though he found fame after his first few films and never looked back, his career was not without its ups and downs. Here are some of his most inspiring quotations about how he dealt with failures and what he thinks about films.
- Everyone has ups and downs. You can’t always get exciting roles.
- Emotions are the same to all human beings. But there is some difference in the way people react to situations.
- Hard work and only hard work has paid off for me. Being a very small industry, hard work is must. It has worked wonders for me most of the time.
- I am a professional actor, and I am very careful about being sincere to the characters I play.
- The love and liking that people have for me has bowled me over, and I am simply overwhelmed.
- A product can turn bad, not the production. When you start a film, you feel it will be great. But sometimes, as it progresses, it fails somewhere. You can’t blame anyone for that. You can blame only your own intelligence.
- Our people work more, earn more, spend more. Here they work less, gain less, and spend less, but they are happy! That’s what I think. Also, I haven’t seen people here drink much, unlike Kerala, where it’s almost like bread and coffee for them.
He has recieved three National Film Awards for Best Actor, seven Kerala State Film Awards, and thirteen Filmfare Awards in the South. He was given the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 1998 for his achievements in arts. In January 2010 and December 2010, he was awarded honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Kerala and the University of Calicut, respectively.
Over the years, he has taken on many personas and shaped his on-screen personality to suit the needs of his films. It’s not simple, though, to draw a distinction between his fictional and real-life selves. Mammootty doesn’t take the title of “superstar” seriously, and he certainly doesn’t take it for granted.
