Top seed Carlos Alcaraz says Novak Djokovic is clear Wimbledon favorite

The current men’s tennis world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, says Novak Djokovic is still the favourite to win Wimbledon this month.

Last week, Alcaraz, 20, won the well-known Queen’s Club title in only his third tournament on grass,  jumping back to the top of the rankings.

He will also be seeded number one at Wimbledon for his third appearance, with some anticipating him for the title, but on Sunday he stated Djokovic remains the man to beat.

In a recent interaction, Alcaraz told reporters, “I’m coming here to Wimbledon with a lot of confidence, thinking that I’m able to do a good result here.”  He added, “But obviously for me the main favourite is Djokovic. He always make everything seem easy. It’s really tough to find some weakness on his game. My expectations are high. I think I will be able to put the pressure on the other players, even Djokovic as well. I feel confident and I feel ready to do good things here.”

Alcaraz reached the 4th round of the Australian Open last year before being defeated by Italian youngster Jannik Sinner, however, he has since gone ahead of his contemporaries, taking the tennis world by storm.

On Tuesday, he will take on  Frenchman Jeremy Chardy and while his early draw appears to be reasonable, he could come up against Germany’s Alexander Zverev or Alex de Minaur, the Australian he defeated in the Queen’s final, in the fourth round.
