‘Two-Thirds Majority by 2026’: Amit Shah’s Bengal Plan as Public Outcry Against TMC Grows

Union Minister and BJP’s chief strategist, Amit Shah, made bold claims today in Kolkata, asserting that the BJP would secure a two-thirds majority to form the government in Bengal by 2026. Addressing the crowd, Shah criticized Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, referencing her reaction to BJP’s seat reduction in recent Lok Sabha polls. “Mamata didi was rejoicing after our seats were reduced. Don’t forget, we are a party that had two seats but aimed to remove Article 370,” Shah remarked.

Shah highlighted issues of “state-sponsored infiltration” and alleged a deterioration of law and order under the Trinamool Congress, adding that “instead of Rabindrasangeet, Bengal today is hearing the sound of bombs.” He urged voters to support BJP to restore stability in the state.

His comments come at a time when anti-government sentiment is rising in Kolkata following the tragic rape-murder of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The incident sparked widespread protests across the state, driven by junior doctors and civil society groups who criticized the administration’s handling of law and order.

Although the protests were recently called off after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, tensions remain high. Shah mentioned alleged vote suppression by Trinamool cadres, quoting actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty. While the BJP largely stayed out of the apolitical protests, speculation grows that they aim to leverage the momentum against Banerjee’s government in their bid for power.
