UP CM Yogi Adityanath receives death threats; Probe underway as FIR filed

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has received a death threat on social media platform. The monitoring team of cyber crime, which keeps an on social media posts involving political figures, government officials, and ministers, registered a case on Saturday evening and even started investigation.

In the FIR, constable Rajesh Tiwari mentioned that he came across a tweet which used abusive language against the UP CM and issued death threats to him. “A Twitter post from the handle of advocate Kalpana Srivastava said that a user (Khalid Qureshi) made some unsavoury remarks against the CM and threatened to kill him,” Tiwari said.

A case has been filed and FIR under sections 504 for intentional insult, 507 for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication, 505 for circulating statements in public causing alarm, and 66 of the IT Act has been registered, as revealed by SHO, Cyber Cell, Mohammed Muslim Khan.

In April 2023, the police had registered a case against an unidentified man in Lucknow, who had threatened to kill CM Yogi. The death threat was received via message on ‘Dial 112’, a number launched by UP government for emergency services.
