The highly anticipated trailer for Viduthalai Part 2, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran, was unveiled on Tuesday by RS Infotainment. A sequel to last year’s hit period crime thriller starring Vijay Sethupathi, the film is set for a December 20 release, generating significant excitement among fans.
In the trailer, Vijay Sethupathi reprises his role as Perumaal Vaathiyaar, who leads a rebellion with his extremist group, Makkal Padai, fighting for liberation. The sequel picks up where the first film left off, addressing critical social issues such as oppression, communalism, and institutionalized violence. Fans have flooded social media with praise, calling it an “intense” and “goosebumps-inducing” trailer, with many predicting it will be a “blockbuster.”
The film, co-written by Vetrimaaran and B. Jeyamohan, is an adaptation of Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan. Initially planned as a single movie, it was split into two parts due to its expansive narrative. The first installment, released last year, earned ₹40 crore and rave reviews.
The sequel features an ensemble cast including Soori, Manju Warrier, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Anurag Kashyap, with music by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by R Velraj, and editing by R Ramar.
Viduthalai Part 2 will face stiff competition at the box office, clashing with the Tamil versions of Kalees’ Bollywood action thriller Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, and Barry Jenkins’ animated epic Mufasa: The Lion King. Fans are eager to see if the sequel can replicate the success of its predecessor.
