The ongoing divorce case between actor-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has been delayed further, as a family court in Chengalpattu adjourned the matter to June 15. The development comes after a brief hearing held on Monday, extending the timeline of what has become a closely followed legal battle.
The case, which appeared before Judge Sasikala as the fourth item on the court’s list, saw limited proceedings before being pushed to mid-June. This marks the second adjournment since the petition was first filed earlier this year. Sangeeta had initiated the legal process in early 2026, seeking dissolution of their marriage along with interim residential rights.
The couple, who married in 1999 and share two children, had largely kept their personal lives private over the years. However, details from the petition brought their differences into the public domain. In her filing, Sangeeta alleged that she discovered Vijay’s involvement in an extramarital relationship in 2021, which she said caused emotional distress and strained their marriage.
The petition further claimed that the actor had gradually withdrawn from the relationship, leading to prolonged separation within the household. It also alleged that his continued public appearances with the actress in question added to her distress.
The case was first taken up in February and later deferred to April, shortly before the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. With the latest adjournment, attention now shifts to the June hearing, which is expected to determine the next steps in the proceedings.
