Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, and Anees Bazmee had become B-most Town’s coveted trio after two back-to-back money-spinners, Welcome and Singh Is King. The producers were willing to risk everything to bring them back together for a comedy. And some people came close to succeeding.
In 2010, Anees Bazmee expressed strong interest in remaking Wedding Crashers, a 2005 Hollywood comedy about two divorce mediators who disrupt weddings in order to meet women. While the original was more of an adult comedy, the filmmaker toned down the content to make it suitable for an Indian family audience and told Akshay about it, who loved the idea and agreed to join the project.
Next, the producer approached Katrina Kaif, who agreed to participate in the film and be romantically partnered with the Khiladi.
The filmmakers were debating who to cast as the film’s second male lead when Akshay recommended John Abraham’s name, and the actor loved the subject and agreed to join the project. It was to commemorate the actors’ reunion following the cult comedy Garam Masala.
Akshay and John were supposed to play divorce mediators who frequently gate crash other people’s weddings, while Katrina was supposed to play a bride-to-be who falls in love with someone who crashed her wedding, resulting in a comedy of errors.
While the cause for the postponement is unknown at this time, an insider claims that there was a last-minute snag with the film’s remake rights.
Bazmee was left wondering what to do next after the film was cancelled, and since he had Akshay’s date, he chose to make another ready-made subject he had in his kitty, titled Thank You. Even for this, Bazmee wanted Katrina Kaif to appear in a cameo role as Akshay’s backstory, but the filmmaker instead placed Vidya Balan in the film, leaving the Akshay – Kat jodi for a separate independent film that is yet to be released.
