Will Ajit Pawar succeed Eknath Shinde: Congress poses question post his oath as Deputy Chief Minister

The Congress today indicated that they are standing with Sharad Pawar as they witness the evolving situation in Maharashtra. The party was an ally with Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party. As Ajit Pawar took oath as second deputy chief minister, joining Eknath Shinde-led government, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi dialled Sharad Pawar.

During his interaction with media, Ajit claimed that he has the support of practically the whole party and claimed its name. However, the Congress’s former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that the number of MLAs in support of Ajit is not confirmed. He went on to claim that veteran politician, Sharad Pawar, will put up a fight at least in people’s court. “[Sharad Pawar has] risen from ashes earlier and he is starting his campaign from tomorrow,” stated Mr. Chavan.

Mr Chavan added that the leaders will have to ultimately face the grass-root leaders as they will have to fight the elections. If the grassroot leaders disapprove, the rebellion will be over. The former CM of Maharashtra also mentioned that the fate of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is not of clear in the ruling alliance.

Mr Chavan indicated that for NCP, the outlook is not bad. He stated that the people who left with Ajit had some serious ED [Enforcement Directorate] inquiries against them.
