Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) find themselves at a crossroads in their captaincy search for IPL 2025 after releasing former skipper KL Rahul. While fans expect Rishabh Pant, the record-breaking Rs 27 crore acquisition, to take over the reins, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka hinted at a broader leadership strategy.
According to Goenka, the team boasts a “strong leadership pool” comprising Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, and Mitchell Marsh. “Rishabh has the hunger and passion to win. But with four leaders in our team, we have a strong mix of intellect, thought, and strategy. It’s about creating the right winning mindset,” Goenka said, keeping LSG’s captaincy plans under wraps.
Pant, who was also released by Delhi Capitals after captaining the side in IPL 2024, made history by becoming the highest buy in IPL 2025. While he is considered a front-runner for captaincy, Goenka’s remarks suggest that LSG might adopt a flexible approach, leveraging the leadership qualities of other experienced players.
