Will Smith returns to the Academy Awards after a 15-year absence with a Best Actor nomination for ‘King Richard.’

The Oscars 2022 nominee list was finally announced on February 8 via live stream, after much anticipation. Will Smith was one of the notable names to receive nominations this year. On Tuesday, the actor received his third and fourth Oscar nominations for his role in King Richard, earning him a Best Actor nod and a Best Picture nod alongside Tim White and Trevor White.

According to Deadline, the Alladin actor produced the film and portrayed Richard Williams, the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, in a story about their early careers.

Throughout the season, critics and guilds have praised his performance in the film. Smith has already received awards from several critics groups, in addition to pending nominations from SAG, BAFTA, and Critics Choice. It has been nearly 15 years since the actor has received another nomination. The Motion Picture Academy gave his film Richard Williams high marks this year. The actor, who was overjoyed to hear the news, took to Instagram and shared a video thanking his fans for their support. “WOW!! 6 Oscar nominations for #kingrichard… that is OUT OF THIS WORLD.
