Since its re-release, the 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam has been gaining renewed acclaim. Fans were excited when the film’s directors, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, recently revealed plans for a sequel.
The first film’s producer, however, has now voiced his opinion, stating that the directors lack the power to declare a sequel. According to him, he does not own the rights to the movie, which stars Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the film’s producer Deepak Mukut spoke about the sequel and the new reports regarding its sequel. “As I am the producer of Sanam Teri Kasam, the intellectual property belongs to me,” he stated.
“Therefore, I own the rights to create a sequel, prequel, or remake. In fact, I announced the sequel in September 2024 with Harshvardhan Rane in the lead..Regarding the directors, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao, I haven’t spoken with them. They haven’t met and discussed it with me. I haven’t chosen a director yet.”
Additionally, he was asked if he had contacted Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao. He responded by saying, “Given that they are doing interviews about the sequel, it is their responsibility to get in touch with me rather than the other way around. I just want to restate that I am the owner of the rights.”
He stated that the sequel is now being written. When it’s finished, the sequel will start filming. For the sake of the sequel, Harshvardhan Rane recently said that he would only consume water for the next eleven days.
In 2016, Sanam Teri Kasam was first made available. The film did not impress the audience, earning only ₹9.1 crore at the box office and being labelled a commercial failure despite being filmed on a substantial budget of ₹14 crore. Harshvardhan and Mawra Hocane made their Bollywood debuts with the movie.
It tells a touching tale of love with a heartbreaking conclusion. The movie has been doing well since its February 7 re-release in theatres. Sacnilk claims that the movie had the largest weekend for a Bollywood re-release. With Monday’s profits of ₹3-3.25 crore, the movie’s overall earnings reached ₹18.50 crore, more than doubling its initial lifetime domestic earnings.
