Wimbledon 2023: Novak Djokovic’s hilarious ‘towel act’ leaves audiences in splits, video goes viral

On Monday, seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic defeated Argentine Pedro Cachin in straight sets to begin his title defence at the SW19.

The Serbian easily advanced into the next round of the grass-court major after defeating the 28-year-old opponent 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.

Djokovic, who is as well-known for his witty and humorous antics as he is for his on-court brilliance, had a funny moment on the first day of the All-England Championships when he attempted to dry the court by himself using only a towel after showers at the centre court.

The 36-year-old from Belgrade won the famous major’s 2022 edition with a four-set victory over Australian maverick  Nick Kyrgios, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6, to win his 7th championship at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

As the tournament favourite, Novak Djokovic has the chance to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight major titles on the luscious grass courts of Wimbledon.

With his historic triumph at Roland Garros last month, the Serbian took his grand slam tally to 23, surpassing famous Spaniard and long-time rival Rafael Nadal’s major count of 22 grand slams.

In any case, world number one Carlos Alcaraz joins the event as the top seed after winning the recently concluded Queen’s Club Championships in the tune-up to the major at W19.

The 20-year-old Spaniard, who learned his trade at the Rafa Nadal Academy, is widely regarded as Nadal’s successor and has demonstrated the same passion and aggression that Nadal was famous for playing with during his prime.
