‘Winning La Liga will be difficult’: Barcelona boss Xavi reacts to Real Madrid’s controversial win against Almeria

After a thrilling match in which Real Madrid stole three points from Almeria in the closing seconds, Almeria wasn’t the only team left frustrated.

Barcelona’s manager, Xavi Hernandez, also voiced his displeasure with the league’s officials’ favouritism for Madrid and said that his team had lost six points so far this season as a result of calls that went against them.

“I already said in Getafe that it was going to be very difficult to win this league. There are people who don’t remember but I think we could have six more points in this championship,” said Xavi.

“I remember the penalty in the Coliseum, the resounding penalty against Raphinha, Joao Felix’s goal in Granada… They are not excuses, they are realities, 95th minute situations that always come up with a cross… There are things that we do not control, everyone has seen it today.”

Real Madrid rallied from two goals behind in the second half to win 3-2 against Almeria, keeping them in a tight race for first place in La Liga.

Almeria was left frustrated not only by the defeat but also by the multiple controversial VAR decisions that went against them, particularly the penalty that allowed Jude Bellingham to lead Real Madrid’s comeback from a 1-2 deficit.

Almeria’s Gonzalo Melero was angry claiming that his team had been “robbed” of the three points they earned.
